Automatically assign work items to people
If you’re creating or editing a work item and don’t know who to assign it to, you can choose the Automatic option for the Assignee field, which will do one of the following:
If there are component(s) on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the Default assignee of one of the components. Space admins can change the Default assignee of components by going to a space and then selecting:
Next to the name of your space in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Space settings.

If there are no components with default assignees on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the space’s Default assignee. Admins can change the space’s Default assignee by going to a space and then selecting:
Next to the name of your space in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Space settings.
Select Details.
