The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence Ethics: From Technology Ethics to Life Ethics

CHEN Liuqin;
This article systematically reviews the paradigm shift in artificial intelligence(AI) ethics research, pointing out that as AI technology gradually demonstrates human-like attributes, its impact has moved from the technological level to ontological and bioethical dimensions. The traditional technological ethics framework, centered on instrumental rationality, can no longer address the current complex moral challenges. Starting from the origin, paradigm, and limitations of technology ethics, the article proposes that AI ethics research should shift from efficiency and risk control to a life ethics framework focused on human dignity, autonomy, and justice. Additionally, by analyzing AI applications in fields such as healthcare, elderly care, and bio-enhancement, the article further demonstrates the practical necessity of life ethics. Looking ahead, the future development of AI ethics should involve the creation of a human-centered, systemically collaborative global ethical governance framework to ensure that AI development serves the overall well-being of humanity and the advancement of civilization.
